Why Bahrain (and Other Under-the-Radar Emirates Destinations) Should Be on Your Travel Radar

Emma Gibson • July 4, 2025

The beauty of Bahrain and the lesser-known Middle-Eastern Destinations

If you love the energy of Dubai or the culture and luxury of Abu Dhabi, you’ll already know how special the Middle East is. But beyond those iconic cities, there are even more destinations offering the same warmth and hospitality, with a slightly slower pace and a more relaxed atmosphere.

Bahrain is a brilliant example: authentic, welcoming, and quietly luxurious. With Emirates, Qatar Airways and Gulf Air flying to so many destinations across the Gulf, it’s easier than ever to combine your favourite cities with somewhere new.

Our lovely Travel Den agent Emma recently spent a few nights in Doha followed by six nights exploring Bahrain. Here’s what she thought of her trip, and why these lesser-known spots might just be your next favourite escape.

🛏 Where I Stayed

The Merchant House, Manama

A creative little boutique hotel near the old town, filled with art and character. Its rooftop pool and restaurant make it a peaceful hideaway close to the hustle and bustle.

Conrad Bahrain Financial Harbour

Modern and sleek, with incredible views. If you like contemporary and comfortable hotels, this one’s for you.

Radisson Blu, Diplomatic Area

Friendly, easy-going, and well located. It’s not flashy, but it ticks all the right boxes for a comfortable stay.

Raffles Doha

I stopped in Doha for three nights and Raffles absolutely blew me away. The perfect blend of elegance and luxury without the fuss.

🗺 A Super Easy Twin-Centre Escape

One thing that made this trip so relaxing was how simple the travel was. The flight from Doha to Bahrain took just 20 minutes, and both airports were stress-free and smooth. If you’re after a twin-centre break without the usual hassle, this route is a great option, and it opens the door to even more possibilities in the region.

🌟 One for the Bucket List: VIP F1 Tour

A real highlight was the VIP tour of Bahrain’s Formula 1 circuit. Whether you’re into motorsport or not, getting behind the scenes of such an iconic venue is a brilliant experience. Private access, expert guides, and a chance to walk the track – it’s pretty unforgettable.

🍴 What Really Stood Out

Bahrain surprised me with how relaxed and genuine it felt. It’s polished, but not in-your-face. You’ll find beautiful mosques, lively souks, peaceful spas, and fantastic dining, but without the crowds and flashiness that bigger Gulf cities sometimes have.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Yes, There Are All-Inclusive Resorts (With Drinks!)

Unlike a lot of the region, Bahrain actually offers true all-inclusive resorts, where your drinks are included too. For families or couples wanting an easy, no-surprises kind of break, it’s a fantastic option.

🌍 Other Destinations Worth Flying For (With Emirates)

One of the great things about flying Emirates is how many interesting, off-the-beaten-track destinations they serve. If you’re open to something different, you could combine Bahrain or Doha with one of these lesser-known Emirates routes for a really memorable trip:

Muscat or Salalah, Oman

Swap city skylines for dramatic mountains and quiet beaches. Muscat is rich in culture and natural beauty—and only an hour’s flight from Dubai. If you’re travelling in summer, Salalah is one of the Gulf’s best-kept secrets, with lush green landscapes during the Khareef season (July to September). Perfect for something totally unexpected.

Kuwait City, Kuwait

A city that’s still firmly off most travellers’ radars, but full of history, art, and waterfront charm. Great for culture lovers.

Riyadh or Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

Saudi is opening up fast to tourism, and both Riyadh and Jeddah offer a very different take on the Arabian Peninsula. You’ll find modern cityscapes, ancient ruins, and a glimpse of a country in transformation.

Amman, Jordan

Petra, the Dead Sea, and Wadi Rum are closer than you think. Emirates fly straight into Amman, making it an easy add-on to a Gulf trip.

All of these places are easily reached with Emirates, making them great options for a stopover or a twin-centre trip if you’re looking for something a little different in the Middle East.

✈️ Who’s This Trip For?

Perfect if you’re:

  • A couple looking for somewhere peaceful but luxurious.
  • A family who loves an all-inclusive break where you don’t have to think about extras.
  • A solo traveller after safe, welcoming places to explore.
  • A culture lover wanting more depth than the usual beach-and-brunch Gulf holiday.

Or simply someone who loves Dubai and Abu Dhabi and is ready to try something new!

💛 Final Thoughts

Dubai and Abu Dhabi will always be favourites, but the Middle East has so much more to offer. Bahrain, Doha, Muscat and Salalah bring a different kind of experience—calm, authentic, and just as easy to reach with Emirates.

The start of a new year is a natural time to pause and reflect. As we move into 2026, we’re seeing a clear shift in what travellers value most — informed not by trends alone, but by real experiences on the ground. At Travel Den, our agents don’t just plan luxury holidays; they experience them. That first-hand knowledge gives us a deeper understanding of what truly makes a trip special, and ultimately shapes how we plan your travel now and into 2026. Travel Experience That Shapes Our Advice Over the past year, our team has travelled extensively, both for work and with family, gaining insight across a wide range of destinations and travel styles. From a European river cruise attended as part of an industry conference in Budapest, to a family tour through Vietnam followed by a luxury beach stay, from time spent at the Elix Mar-Bella Collection in Greece on a family holiday, to work trips in Antigua and Turkey, and finishing the year with Christmas in the Maldives as a family - each journey offers a different perspective. Experiencing travel in this way allows us to understand the reality behind the brochure: how destinations feel at different times of year, how resorts genuinely cater to families, how conferences and ship inspections translate into guest experience, and where small details can make a meaningful difference. This depth of experience ensures our advice is practical, honest, and rooted in real life. 1. Personal Knowledge Makes the Difference In a world full of online reviews and endless options, personal insight is invaluable. Knowing which room category genuinely offers the best view, when a destination feels at its best, or which experiences are truly worth prioritising can completely change a holiday. In 2026, luxury is defined by detail - and detail comes from experience. At Travel Den, our recommendations are shaped by places we’ve stayed, flights we’ve taken, and destinations we’ve explored ourselves. Whether it’s understanding the flow of a river cruise, the realities of long-haul family travel, or how a luxury resort operates during peak season, this insight allows us to tailor each trip so it truly fits the traveller. 2. Seamless Travel Is the New Standard Effortless travel is no longer a luxury; it’s an expectation. Smooth transfers, well-timed flights, and carefully considered connections all contribute to a trip that feels calm from start to finish. Having travelled extensively ourselves, we understand where small adjustments can make a huge difference. Choosing the right arrival time, recommending a quieter route, or knowing when a private transfer will genuinely enhance the experience can remove unnecessary friction and allow you to focus on enjoying the journey rather than managing it. 3. Why Guidance Still Matters in Luxury Travel It’s never been easier to book a holiday online. With just a few clicks, flights, hotels, and transfers can be arranged in minutes. But ease of booking doesn’t always translate to ease of travel. Luxury travel is about far more than availability and price. It’s about timing, flow, comfort, and knowing that every detail has been thoughtfully considered. The guidance of an experienced travel agent brings clarity, simplicity, and reassurance - helping travellers navigate options, avoid unnecessary complexity, and make choices that genuinely enhance the journey. In a world of endless options and information overload, having a trusted expert who understands the nuances of luxury travel can make the difference between a good trip and a truly exceptional one. It’s not about booking a holiday - it’s about having someone who plans, advises, and supports you every step of the way. Looking Ahead As we begin 2026, our focus remains the same: sharing our knowledge, drawing on real travel experience, and creating bespoke luxury itineraries that feel personal, effortless, and genuinely special. Whether you’re beginning to think about your next escape or refining plans already in mind, our team is always happy to share insight, advice, and ideas drawn from real travel experience. Thank you to everyone who travelled with Travel Den last year. We’re excited to help you plan your next unforgettable journey. Here’s to another year of extraordinary travel.

At Travel Den, we like to go the extra mile to truly understand the destinations we sell – and sometimes that means jetting off to paradise... for research, of course. Recently, our lovely travel expert Sian was “hard at work” exploring the Maldives with our partners at Hummingbird Travel – a team of luxury island specialists with over 30 years of experience in the region and a portfolio of over 200 stunning resorts. She was lucky enough (jealous, us?) to visit four unique luxury islands in just seven days, and she's here to tell you all about it. And the best bit? We've secured exclusive offers and added-value discounts for Travel Den clients at every resort Sian visited – all the links are at the bottom of the blog. Now, over to Sian...

This Easter, my family and I set off on a different kind of holiday – a Family Group Tour across the beautiful landscapes of Vietnam, coupled with a few nights' stay at a luxurious beachfront villa for some much-needed relaxation after the tour had finished, creating the perfect blend between adventure and exploration, and chilling. A trip of a lifetime! From cruising through the Mekong Delta to exploring the bustling streets of Hanoi, it was a trip filled with adventure, discovery, and laughter. And what made it that extra bit more special was that we shared this with a group of like-minded and welcoming families. By the end, one thing was unanimous amongst us all: everyone would do it again.

Imagine gliding down a winding river, past breathtaking landscapes, ancient cities, and vibrant cultures - all while enjoying five-star luxury. River cruises offer an intimate and immersive way to travel, combining elegance with adventure. At Travel Den, we specialise in curating the finest travel experiences, and today, we’re highlighting one of the luxurious ways to travel the world - River cruises. Why Choose a Luxury River Cruise? Unlike ocean cruises, river cruises provide a completely unique experience, allowing you to dock in the heart of cities and explore hidden gems that you may not otherwise have been able to see. With all-inclusive luxury, personalised service, and expertly curated itineraries, they are the ultimate way to experience the world’s most fascinating and desirable destinations in style. Which Luxury Cruise Should I Choose? With so many incredible river cruise options around the world, choosing the right one depends on your travel style and interests. Here’s a few cruise ideas perfect for what you’re looking for: History and Culture: A Nile River cruise is perfect for history enthusiasts, offering unparalleled access to Egypt’s ancient wonders. Spirituality and Tradition: The Ganges River immerses you in India’s rich spiritual heritage, with visits to sacred temples and bustling riverbanks. A Unique, Emerging Destination: The Magdalena River in Colombia offers a blend of vibrant music, colonial charm, and unspoiled natural beauty, perfect for those seeking something off the beaten path. Excotic and immersive: A Peruvian River cruise is a breathtaking journey through the heart of the Amazon, blending luxury, wildlife encounters, and rich cultural experiences. A European Adventure: For something a little bit closer to home, yet still with an abundance of culture, a European River cruise offers exactly that.
